The story of why we embroider on
Balsa Wood

Thank you for viewing my website.  I have  found quite often that a lot of people pass up Balsa Wood Embroidery because they do not understand what is really done with the craft.  So, again,  thank you for taking the time to view with an open mind.

All of my life I have loved embroidery.  After receiving a brand new and extremely nice embroidery machine, I was desperate to find a medium that I could embroider and be excited about.  I did not want to be like everyone else  and just embroider on clothes.  After trying several different types of materials such as art canvas,  screen wire and many more - I chose balsa wood; it was the one material that I  just kept coming back to.  Over the  past several years my craft has grown into a passion.
I am starting my fifth year of embroidery on balsa wood.

How it's done:

Balsa Wood Embroidery.  Using an embroidery machine, thread, stabilizer, balsa wood and patterns; I create Balsa Wood Embroidery.  The embroidery patterns are digitized for each picture. Colors are chosen and used to create unique one of a kind pieces  sewn through the wood. Balsa wood is hand cut to size.  Pieces are hooped, sewn on the machine, and cut again to prepare them for framing.  Please see the  pictures below showing the process.

Although the craft has been around for years, not many have heard of, or seen, this type of embroidery.  Balsa wood embroidery is not highly produced due to the difficulty in actually sewing through the wood successfully.

I have developed my own methods and techniques and I believe I have mastered the Art of Balsa Wood Embroidery. I want to assure you that I do make ALL of my products and I do use an embroidery machine.  I design a lot of my own digitized patterns but I also purchase some.  The patterns that I purchase are only in digitized format - I choose ALL the thread colors that I use when I put them on my machine to
stitch through the wood.

I offer tiled pictures in various sizes in addition to 8" x 10" framed pictures.  Greeting cards are also embroidered through balsa wood.

The photos of the finished embroidered pictures do not show its true beauty; only when seen in person can one appreciate this awesome and rare art form.
